Let us think of this as me reaching out to you across miles and miles of optic fibre and satellite signals to say hello. Hello! I’m Bek Wa Goro and I’m a British / South African / Kenyan based in London. I have a tendency to wear many hats… both literally on my head and in what I do. I write screenplays, I’m a filmmaker, I cobble together content for web and print media and in the little spare time I have, I write music as a hobby. I’m currently studying an MBA through which I intend to fuse my creative and commercial experience.
02. ORGANISATIONAL HAT
I have worked in media and communications, serving as the Communications Officer/Director of a cultural enterprise for over ten years and have been responsible for assisting the organisation in maintaining partnerships with major institutions such as The British Library, The Royal African Society, IKM Emergent (and its partners), and the Women’s Caucus of the African Studies Association among others. I was directly responsible for overseeing the management of the brand and reported to the director. Prior to my work in communications I worked in advertising for RELX Group (formerly Reed Elsevier) in client account management for business to business publications, Commercial Motor, Farmer’s Weekly and Hairdressers Journal and was primarily focused on writing targeted copy.
03. CREATIVE HAT
I have worked professionally as an actor and writer for over ten years, including for the BBC and on projects at some of Britain’s leading theatres: The Bloomsbury Theatre, The Soho Theatre, The Hackney Empire, The Young Vic Theatre and The Lowry Theatre in Manchester. I have also written several short form films and plays that ultimately led to being commissioned to write a full-length play which ran at Hoxton Hall for several weeks and received critical acclaim. I graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Film and Television where I specialised in screenwriting and directing.
